The six girl’s teams were allocated into two groups:
Group one: Finland, Faroe Islands, Iceland.
Group two: Denmark, Sweden, England.
The winners of each group would qualify directly to the semi-finals, while the other two semi-finalists would be found in quarter-finals between no. 2 in one group against no. 3 in the other group.
Finland and Denmark qualified directly for the semi-finals as group-winners while England and Sweden overcame the Faroe Islands and Iceland, respectively, to book their place in the semi-final.
In the semis, Denmark emphatically beat England 3-0 to set up a final against Finland, who comfortably beat Sweden 3-0.
The final was an epic 5-setter where Denmark won the first set 25-15. Finland they claimed the next two sets 25-16 and 25-18 before Denmark levelled the match at 2-all by winning the 4th set 25-21 to set up a tiebreaker where Denmark came out on top, winning 15-11 and clinching their first ever U17 title.
This was only the second time since the start of the U17 competition in 2004 that Finland did not win the title. In the bronze match Sweden beat England 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-09). In the match for 5th/6th place, Iceland beat the Faroe Islands 3-1 (22-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-19)
