Neither teams wanted to yield and give away the match easily. Both sides fought it out until the end of the final set with an unpredictable outcome on who will emerge victors in the duel.
The first four sets established the grit of both teams to shift the momentum to their respective sides forcing issues to be resolved in a tiebreaker. The fifth set was a severe race to match point that flared up tensions between Korea and Chinese Taipei.
Chinese Taipei had a brief comfortable lead but was suddenly wiped out as Korea breached their opponents’ blocking to level the match at 16-all. Korea made a huge turnaround with a crucial block on the Chinese Taipei opposite hitter. Wang Sin-Ting’s faulty attack from the left flank proved costly as Chinese Taipei lost the set and the match.
Korea’s Kim Hee-Jin poured in 24 points to spearhead the offense in regulation then captain Han Song-Yi became the designated hitter in the closing minutes of the fifth set. Han had complete authority over the court scoring 23 points to come from behind the Chinese Taipei lead. Korea’s most notable quality in the match was their unity to overcome a complicated task.
The two-hour contest also saw exemplary performances from Chinese Taipei’s Ten Yen-Min who contributed 20 markers and Chen Wan-Ting with 18 points coming from striking attacks.
