CAVB: CAVB Congress condemns denying the entry visas to Canada for African teams

African Volleyball Confederation “CAVB” Congress on the second day of its extraordinary meeting in Cairo, Egypt on Saturday strongly condemns the situation of denying the entry visas to Canada for all the African teams qualifying to the FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch Junior World Championship in Halifax, Canada August 29 to September 2, 2012 and thus the African teams couldn’t represent their continent at the prestigious event which was against the ethics of the sport.

The Congress sent a thanks message to the FIVB President Jizhong Wei for his personal intention and apologies to the concerned National Federation and strongly recommends that this matter to be discussed at the FIVB Congress in Anaheim, USA. The congress also recommends to consider the competition being the inaugural one and to be declared null and rescheduled in a new host country in order to allow the African teams to participate.

The Congress also recommends that the FIVB reports this incident to the International Olympic Committee “IOC”

CAVB President Dr Amr Elwani clarified the situation to the Congress attendance and featured the great efforts done by the FIVB President to help issuing the visas before the competition while he was in Cairo visiting the CAVB Headquarters. He also mentioned the Visa extraction is something political beyond the capability of the African volleyball confederation.

The second day was also attended by the guests of honour; FIVB Vice President and CSV President Ary Graça, AVC vice president Issa Hamza, AVC Board member and Qatar VB Fed President Khalid Al Mawlawi, Emirates VB Fed President Youssif El Molla, JVA Executive Board member Yuichiro Hamu.

After the closure of the congress events CSV president expressed his happiness to see the unity of all the African countries towards the development of volleyball all over the continent.
