The Cuban-born Juantorena is currently one of the most idolized players of Trentino Diatec and also around Italy, especially after the run of four consecutive titles achieved by the team and his personal collection of MVP awards.

I am really glad for the title obtained by my team, above all the individual achievements,Juantorena said at the end of the closing ceremony. “The Most Valuable Player awards is really something stimulating but the credit goes to the whole squad.

The spectacular wing spiker was somehow surprised when his name was announced as the winner of the MVP for third year in a row.

The truth is that I was not expecting to win it again,” he said. “It just caught me off guard, but I am happy about winning again.

Since the FIVB Club Championships were resumed four years ago with Doha as the hosting city of all the competitions, Juantorena has been the most awarded player of all. In 2009, when the MVP went to Matey Kaziyski, he took home the trophy as the best server of the event.

Each award has different taste,” responded Juantorena when he was asked about the meaning of winning for third consecutive time.

There is always the first one,” he said. “But this one I will never forget because it coincided with the fourth world championship title of our team. I will cherish it all my life because it came together with our fourth crown.

The unselfish outside hitter, who turned 27 last August, was quick to remind everyone that the first goal was a collective one: winning the fourth championship.

The reality is that the MVP was not me, but the whole team,” he concluded. “Everyone put is grain of sand for the fourth crown.
