After composing a roster filled with prominent names of the world volleyball such as Cuban Ángel Dennis and Colombian Liberman Agámez in the 2017/18, Sporting CP tend to do the same for the next season in which they will try to defend the national title and qualify to the pool stage of the CEV Champions League.

The Lisbon team have engaged a famous Cuban outside hitter Leonel Marshall! A 38-year-old player, who defected from Cuba in 2000, has spent the most of his professional career in Italy. It includes the last two seasons in which he wore the jersey of Wixo LPR Piacenza. Marshall won Italian championship once, Turkish championship twice, Turkish cup and Super cup once each. Internationally, he won the CEV Cup and CEV Challenge Cup once each. He was awarded CEV Cup and Turkish league MVP.

In addition to Marshall, Sporting tied Spanish setter Guillermo Hernán (Tours Volley-Ball, France), Bulgaria national team captain Todor Aleksiev (Olympiacos S.F.P., Greece), Cape Verdean middle blocker Hélio Sanches and outside hitter Roberto Reis (both SC Espinho).

The club extended with libero Hugo Ribeiro, middle blocker Fabrício Silva „Kibinho“ and captain Miguel Maia, while the Brazilian Robson Gomes „Robinho“ (EMS Taubaté Funvic, Brazil), the above-mentioned Liberman Agámez (Seoul Woori Card Wibee, South Korea), and Australian Luke Smith (Afyon Bld. Yüntaş, Turkey) will no longer wear the jersey of Sporting.
