Wilfredo León, one of the best players nowadays, will officially receive a Polish passport next Monday. When coming to Poland, one club had the chance to snatch him, but missed it…

If all goes well, the Cuban receiver will get permission to play for the national team of Poland in April 2016, as media in that country keep writing. It means that he will gain the right to perform for the East European country at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

León’s manager Andzej Grzyb revealed to przegladsportowy.pl how he started to cooperate with the player and which Polish club could contract him at the time.

“He arrived in Poland at my urging, in January 2014. He lived in my hometown of Rzeszów… We had to wait for the end of Olympics in London to start our cooperation. Since Cuba did not qualify, León decided to give up playing for the national team,” manager stated.

“When he arrived in Poland, he was hired by my managerial agency in Rzeszów. He trained with Resovia, but was too expensive for the club. It had to pay 450,000 euros to the Cuban for one year. He got such money from the Russians. This is how he went to Zenit Kazan last year,” Grzyb added.

We remind you that León was captain of Cuba already at the age of 17, which says enough about how talented he was.
