From the next year World League Group 1 will have 12 teams instead of 8, and that is how Russia remained in the top rank. After this decision has become official, Stanislav Shevchenko, the President of the Russian Volleyball Federation, stated that FIVB made the logical choice.

“FIVB showed great respect toward Russia. The decision is absolutely normal. It is important to mention that FIVB did not change just the number of teams, but the format of the competition as well. The new format of the World League means that competition will last four weeks instead of eight, and it is big plus for all teams before the Olympic Games” said Shevchenko for R-Sport.
