Austria downed Romania in straight sets (25-18, 25-21, and 25-16) on Sunday at “Burhan Felek” Volleyball Hall in Istanbul to clip its second win in this year’s CEV Volleyball European League. The guys mentored by head coach Michael Warm controlled the game all the way through trailing in the score only by the first technical break of set 3. Austria’s Thomas Zass topped once again the charts of the best scorers with 22 points, including 5 aces.

We made a way too many mistakes and we could not resist to the good performance displayed by our opponents” said Romanian head coach Dan Gavril. “We played a very bad game lacking focus and concentration” added team captain Dan Borota. “Some key players were missing today as they are currently struggling with injuries or sick. Our group is very young but I am evidently very happy with this result” stated Austria’s mentor Michael Warm

Turkey downed, quite surprisingly, the Netherlands in the second match of the day (25-15, 25-23, and 25-21) to contribute a result that only a few may have expected. Turkey’s dominance was clear-cut in all sections of the match, with outside hitter Emre Batur contributing 15 points to the tally of his side, two more than Serhan Coskun.
