Rennes, France, February 29, 2012. Even though France’s RENNES Volley 35 scored a 3:1 home win tonight in the return match for the 1/4 finals of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Men, still Poland’s Tytan AZS CZESTOCHOWA ultimately advanced to the semifinals by seizing the golden set (15-11) to play there Belgium’s Prefaxis MENEN.

RENNES scores home win but Tytan takes golden set to make it to semis

After losing 1:3 last week in Poland, RENNES Volley 35 bounced back from one set down tonight to score a 3:1 win (20-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-18) to call for the golden set before losing there the chance to make it to the semifinals of the European Cups.

Bartosz Janeczek paced tonight Tytan AZS CZESTOCHOWA with a massive haul of 30 points with middle blocker Wojciech Sobala adding 14 to the count, including 4 blocks.

As for RENNES Volley 35, the home side was anchored by Keith Pupart with 23 points (4 aces) and opposite Jaromir Kolacny (11).   

The head coach of the visiting team, Marek Kardos, who spent 4 seasons in Rennes as a player, was warmly greeted by the 1’700 fans in attendance tonight at “Colette Besson” sports hall.
