Aleksei Spiridonov, a former member of the Russian national team and a player for various clubs, among others, Zenit Kazan, will continue season in Al Jazeera SC in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He made this move after his former club, Al Ahli SC, terminated his contract due to restrictions on the number of foreign players in the Qatari league. This decision was made following the arrival of Nemanja Petric and the club’s choice to keep opposite Anton Qafarena.
This unexpected move surprised Spiridonov’s followers as he played a crucial role in leading Al Ahli SC to historic achievements, including a second-place in the Qatari championship 2021, winning the Qatar Cup 2021, and reaching the Qatar Cup final in 2020. During the regular season, Spiridonov played a vital role in keeping Al Ahli SC at the top of the local volleyball scene. However, following his departure, Al Ahli SC is now fighting for a spot in the 5th to 8th place bracket in the Qatar League Playoffs.
