Germany are the new European men’s volleyball champions in the Under-18 age category!

For the first time in the history of volleyball in Germany, their men’s national team was crowned the CEV U18 European Championship winner.

In the final match of this year’s edition of the tournament, Germans took revenge on one of the co-hosts, Czech Republic, for losing the game of the last round in the group stage, 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-20). The game was held in front of 2,500 spectators at the Sports Hall in Zlín.

The main star of the championship, a 16-year-old outside hitter Simon Pfretzschner, made another respectable display, scoring 14 points. With the performances he showed in the tournament that was held in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Pfretzschner likely managed to secure himself a contract in some club that competes in a higher rank this his current team ASV Dachau (Division 3). The middle blocker Jan Breburda, who also wears a jersey of a Division 3 side, TuS Kriftel, added 4 kill blocks for the winners. Jan Vodička scored 11 points for the Czech Republic.

Italy claimed the bronze medal with a 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-23, 25-17) victory over Russia.
