Roberto Santilli, Italian expert who is doing a great job with Australia National Team, agreed to share some of his thoughts for WorldofVolley on the teams and players performing at the Final Six and possible outcome of the tournament.
See the schedule of the Final Six.
Which teams are favorites to win the Final Six?
“It’s hard to say. France and Brazil above all but also Italy and USA are growing up fast. I could say Serbia, but they lost Atanasijević. I see a very balanced final…”
Which details might decide the winners?
“The team condition. We all had short time to prepare for the World League, especially before the Olympics. So, most of the teams are not at their top like Italy, USA or Poland.”
From which player do you expect to highlight at the tournament?
“Every team has a player that can make a difference inside the group: Ngapeth for France, Juantorena for Italy, Kurek for Poland, and so on. Maybe the team which is mostly balanced is Brazil…”
Do you think that teams might save themselves for the Olympic Games and not reveal entire potential before Rio?
“I don’t believe anyone can hide anything. I think the teams had different preparations so they are in a different condition. For example, France and Poland had to play the Qualification Tournament in Japan and players didn’t have any break after the club season. The general condition of each team will make a big difference now. Everyone has plans at the Olympic Games, except Serbia that could have been a candidate but they lost the most important player, and all summer is organized for it. All those teams are dreaming the Olympic gold medal.” Santilli concluded his interview to our website.
