The day began with defending champions France securing a crucial 3-1 victory against Serbia in Anaheim, thus controlling their own fate in the tournament. The match saw France overturn an initial setback to win 20-25, 25-23, 25-20, 28-26, pushing their rank up to ninth with five wins in ten matches. Key contributions from Jean Patry and Trevor Clevenot, who scored 18 and 17 points respectively, were instrumental in their win.
Serbia also showcased a valiant effort with four of their players, Drazen Luburic, Marko Ivovic, Petar Krsmanovic, and Aleksandar Nedeljkovic scoring in double digits. France, however, maintained an edge throughout the game, leaving them poised to qualify for the Finals if they can secure victory in their final two matches.
The second match of the day witnessed a strong performance from Germany who overcame Cuba in a 3-0 straight-set victory, boasting scores of 25-23, 25-23, 25-22. Germany’s victory was led by Linus Weber with 15 points and Moritz Reichert with 12, while Cuba’s top scorers were Jesus Herrera and Miguel Angel Lopez with 16 and 13 points respectively.
In what turned out to be the most electrifying match of the day, Argentina staged a stunning comeback against the USA in a five-set thriller. Trailing by 1-2, Argentina clawed their way back into the match, fending off four match points held by the USA. The nerve-wracking final fifth set concluded with a 15-12 victory for Argentina, after an incredible 43-41 score in the fourth set.
Top performers for the match included the USA’s Torey Defalco with 25 points, followed by Matthew Anderson, Thomas Jaeschke, and Maxwell Holt. For Argentina, Agustin Loser shone brightest with 15 points, with solid support from Bruno Lima, Pablo Koukartsev, and Nicolas Zerba, who each added 14 points to their team’s final tally.
