EUROVOLLEY 2019 W: Good start for Poland, Hungary and Slovakia

Poland, Hungary and Slovakia have scored the victories in the first round of the EuroVolley!


These three teams played at the home court and that was a huge confidence boost against the rivals. Poland defeated Slovenia 3-0 in Pool B, in a game that has singled out Malwina Smarzek as the best scorer with 25 points.

In Budapest, Hungary easily smashed Estonia in straight sets, while Slovakia had a difficult game but managed to win it in three sets against Spain.

Anett Nemeth was the best scorer in Hungary's win with 14 points, while Nina Herelova was the hero of Slovakia with 14 points as well.

POOL B, round 1:

Belgium - Ukraine 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-22)

Italy - Portugal 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-13)

Poland - Slovenia 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-23)

POOL C, round 1:

Croatia - Azerbaijan 2-3 (13-25, 25-20, 25-22, 24-26, 15-17)

Netherlands – Romania 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-9)

Hungary – Estonia 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-15)

POOL D, round 1: 

Switzerland – Germany 0-3 (16-25, 19-25, 21-25)

Belarus – Russia 0-3 (24-26, 16-25, 22-25)

Slovakia – Spain 3-0 (26-24, 29-27, 25-18)

WC 2019 W: Brazil beat weakened team of Serbia in thriller, China win Asian derby

Because the VNL consists of teams that have been invited by the FIVB, rather than have truly qualified for it based on competitive criteria. These teams (e.g. Belgium & Slovenia with the men) would unjustifiedly lose a lot of points on the ranking because they didn't pay the FIVB enough to participate. on the other hand weak teams like South Korea would see their ranking go up just purely by participating.

In its current format the VNL is nothing but a worthless demonstration tournament of friendly games... :-(
