Azimut Modena trampled on defending champions Cucine Lube Civitanova in Round 19 of an Italian men’s volleyball championship Serie A1 although they played without their best scorer!

In the big match of Round 19 of Serie A1, Modena scored a straight-set win against Lube on the road, partially 25-23, 25-21, 25-19. It was the first defeat that Lube suffered at their ground after one year and nine months (April 9th, 2016)! The win of Modena was even heavier knowing the fact they played today without two starters: their best scorer this season, the Frenchman Earvin Ngapeth (sidelined as a precautionary measure), and Giulio Sabbi (injured for a long time). Sabbi’s replacement, the young opposite Andrea Argenta (79% excellent attack; 3 kill blocks) and Slovenian Tine Urnaut topped the side coached by Radostin Stoytchev with 15 points each, while Bulgarian Tsvetan Sokolov made 10 points for Lube, who committed 10 more errors than the rivals (28-18).

Sir Safety Conad Perugia maintained leadership by beating Biosì Indexa Sora 3-0 thanks to 12 points apiece from an American Aaron Russell and Serbian Marko Podraščanin (5 kill blocks). Serbian Dušan Petković highlighted Sora with 18 points.
