Philippe Barca-Cysique is set for a new adventure in his coaching career.

After spending his first season as a head coach in Belgium, the French coach is now gaining more experience in Qatar.

What is more difficult, to be a coach or a player, from your point of view?

In my opinion, it is more difficult to be a coach. As a player, you can have a direct influence on the game with your actions. As a coach, you don't have that influence and that can be frustrating. However, in my experience during a volleyball season, the cohesion between the players and the coach intensifies which gives me as a coach more means to guide the players and have more influence on the game.“

You moved to Qatar and took over Al Arabi. What are your expectations for this challenge?

"This challenge is a new adventure after my experience in Belgium. I hope that I can bring in my experience and my vision of volleyball and of course I hope for the best result possible for the club who has big ambitions in this championship."

How would you describe your first season as the head coach?

"My first season as head coach was very important to see if I have the capacity to guide a high-level team and share my passion for volleyball. It was also crucial for the decision to continue this carrier path."

What did you learn from that experience?

"After 20 years as a professional player, I quickly realized the difference between being a player who only has to think about his own performance and the work of a coach who has to manage a team on different levels - prepare the training sessions, prepare the games (video etc.), create cohesion between the players and also with the coach and staff. "

Where would you like to work as the head coach one day?

"For me working in Qatar as a head coach is already a big achievement and I am happy that Al Arabi gives me this chance and has this confidence in me. I will take every year as a new challenge and I am looking forward to growing my experience as a coach."

What one head coach needs to have to be considered as a successful one?

"In my opinion, a coach can be considered successful when he is able to deliver a message to his team which has total confidence in him."

Which trophy you would like to win one day as a head coach?

"I don't envision to win a specific trophy. For me, all trophies are a victory and a great achievement for a coach and his team."

She quit the national team to spend more time with her son if I remember correctly. It was never an issue of quality, she is still a top player. Reply
