Austrian opposite Paul Buchegger is set to join Qatar’s Police SC for the upcoming Qatar Cup and Emir Cup tournaments, marking a significant move as the Qatari volleyball season approaches its climax for 2023/2024. Having spent the previous season with Farmitalia Catania in Italy’s A1 league, Buchegger’s transfer adds a notable name to the Qatari market, which remains vibrant despite the absence of the high-profile stars it once boasted.
The volleyball market in Qatar has heated up, especially with the onset of competitions in the Qatar Cup and the Emir Cup—the most prestigious tournaments in the country and, arguably, the region over the last 15 years. While the Qatari market may no longer feature as many marquee players, it continues to attract renowned global talents looking to conclude their club seasons in the Gulf nation.
Buchegger is expected to return to Italy for the 2024/2025 season to play for Valsa Group Modena.
