You spent the 2019/2020 season in the Hungarian championship. Are you satisfied with the season even though it didn’t end?
“Before approaching the Hungarian championship, I didn’t have any idea what is the level and the quality of the league. This year the quality of the teams was at the highest level in history, so I am happy that I was a part of it. Am I satisfied, no, because in my mind was winning the championship title. After all year of trying to build a new team, I was hoping to reward the club, fans and the city, with an important trophy.”
How far your team Bekescsabai could go last season?
“Our team was totally new, and comparing to the previous years, not enough quality to continue the standard of BRSE history. In the first part of the season, our team was average, so our results were average. In the season break, we add some quality players, that were giving another level to our level of play. Before playoffs, we had a good and mature level of play. I was confident about our results. Unfortunately, the virus stopped our championship, and we didn’t have the opportunity to show all the work we did.”
What are your impressions about the Hungarian volleyball?
“In the last years, with the help of the state’s money, the level is increasing. I was in the best club in Hungary, so maybe my working utilities are not real to compare with other clubs. But in general, the female volley is going in a good direction.”
Are you staying in Hungary or you are trying to find a new team?
“My contract expired at the end of April, and with my ex-club, we didn’t have any contacts for the future. I am searching at this moment some options for my further challenge. Sure, I will be glad to work in one long term project compared to the last two, putting aside the level of my personal budget.”
How did you spend your time during the coronavirus pandemic?
“After returning home in Slovenia, my pandemic time was very nice. Taking care of my family and getting in good shape made me really happy.”
Is this situation going to affect volleyball in some way?
“The volleyball season is restarting in a few months, so I don’t think it will change a lot in our sport… At least at the clubs’ level. Maybe the preparation will start early, and the league too, due to obligatory finish of the leagues earlier next year. Anyway, I am positive about the situation…” says Vasja Samec for WorldofVolley.
