“It was an amazing match, we could have won it but in the second and third set Russia’s experience proved decisive. Now we will wait to see the results of Brazil against Russia tomorrow before thinking of our chances for qualification” said Marouf.
Russia’s Sergey Savin admitted the match had been tricky.
“It was a very tough match and Iran were very hard to play against, but we got there in the end. We know Iran are a team on the up, and they are very strong. But we are Russia and we must win. Tomorrow we play a great team in Brazil and we know what we need to do to win.”
