Iran opened very strong in the first set. They controled the first period from the begining until the end, mostly due to their great defence. Slobodan Kovac already stamped his recognizable style onto this team by making them warriors on the court. You have to work extra hard to earn a single point against this Iranian team. Also when the things start to go wrong, that bench is very deep with Mahmoudi, Tashakori and others always ready to step up.
Italy managed to recover in the second set and win it close but that was about everything they could’ve done. From that point on Iranian defence took over the game, and when you add genius that is Marouf to that kind of defence, you simply get wins.
Ghafour was the top scorer with 18 points.
