The assertion was made by Mr Vicente Araujo, president of the FIVB Development Commission, during his presentation to the World Congress on Thursday.
“By utilizing its existing attractive promotional material and the increase of the campaign we can make a big impact around the world through all the national federation category I and II,” Araujo stated.
He explained that if used correctly, Cool Volley can serve also as an educational tool in primary schools as well.
Araujo also commented on the success of the Volley All Festivals and its growth over the past three years pointing out that during that period 1.3 million youngsters took part in these grassroots events which benefited from big media coverage.
One of the most ambitious plans of the Development Commission is to organize a Volleyball Symposium of Volleyball at Schools in 2013 in order to create the base that will permit the expansion of the sport starting from the tender ages.
Regarding the World Vision Plan 2016, Araujo informed the Congress that the FIVB have 160 national federations of category I and II and it is necessary to establish a strategic plan “to know where we are and where we want to be in 2016.”
“In 2011, in collaboration with the Technical and Development Department, we published a Beach Drill book that we believe can be extremely useful for both beginners and advanced players,” Araujo said.
The book was published in English, French and Spanish and it covers many aspects of modern beach volleyball techniques and tactics.
“We also plan to include more instructional videos in our website and thus assist the coaches and teachers across the world as this has proven particularly to be a key tool,” Araujo added.
He commented as well on the 13 existing Development Centres around the world (six in Asia, three in Africa, two in South America and two in NORCECA) whose primary purpose is the running of courses and seminars as well as to establish a close working programme with the national federation within their area of influence.
Araujo also stressed on the impact of the Volleyball Cooperation Programme as 122 countries have benefitted from its launching 22 years ago.
At the end of his presentation, Araujo, accompanied by the FIVB President, Mr. Jizhong Wei, presented plaques of recognition to the five continental confederations for the word performed during the past two years and one special plaque was presented to the Sri Lanka National Federation for the success of their All Volley Festival.
