Brazilian champions did not give many chances to Minas Tênis Clube in derby of Minas Gerias state 3-0, with partial 25-21, 25-22 and 25-17.
Cruzeiro’s coach, the Argentine Marcelo Mendez, used entire squad that took last season’s national title, for the first time since the beginning of Superliga. So far, he has been switching some players, trying to rest them from Club World Championship and other recent competitions.
Cuban Yoandy Leal scored 18 points in Cruzeiro while his compatriot Yadrian Escobar collected 14 in Minas.
In another big match of Round 6, played earlier, Funvic/Taubaté destroyed Sesi-SP in straight sets.
It was a rerun of the finals of Paulista championship (championship of São Paulo state) in which Ricardo Lucarelli had no mercy to his previous teammates – 22 points. Théo Lopes topped Sesi’s scorers – 14 points.
Now, Taubaté and Cruzeiro are equal in number of points (15) but Taubaté claim top spot due to better set ratio.
