Cruzeiro meets Tigres (Mexico), in Doha (Qatar), which will be hosting the best volleyball teams in the world. Along the Brazilians in the group are also Al Rayyan (Qatar) and the favorite, Trentino (Italy), triple champion of the competition.
Coach Marcelo Méndez is realistic about the strength of the opponents and knows that Cruzerio will have many difficulties in the competition.
“We are not favorites and we are aware of that. We are in a group that has the Trentino, which has been world champion three times. I see the Polish team also as a very difficult opponent and the Russian team too. It contains half of the Russian national team players”, Méndez said, referring to PGE Skra (POL) and Zenit (RUS).
But even with the obstacles to the long awaited achievement, Méndez does not deny that the team believes that a heavenly way is possible.
“We can not deny that we hope to bring this title to Brazil. Brazilian team has never won the World Cup. Anything can happen.”
The Brazilians, in group A, making their debut this Saturday at 9am against Tigres from Mexico. On Sunday, at 13h, Cruzeiro takes on Al Rayyan, Qatar. After that, the team goes to the third round and they will face the defending champion, Trentino, Italy.
