Italy’s Savino Del Bene Scandicci hit the first European semi-final in their history. After the 3-1 home win against France’s RC Cannes in the first leg of the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup 2022 | Women quarter-finals, Massimo Barbolini’s team quickly took the 2 sets necessary for the qualification to the semis in the rematch on the French Riviera. Scandicci then completed the work by winning the 3rd set as well. Indre Sorokaite was Scandicci’s top scorer with 17 points. For the placement in the final, the Italian side will face Turkey’s Aydın BBSK who eliminated Romania’s C.S.M. Lugoj with a double 3-2 victory.

Spain’s CV Tenerife La Laguna (also known as CV Haris) achieved the greatest milestone in their history by reaching the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup. They will play their first-ever semifinals in the continental competitions, improving the previous historic result – qualifying to the quarter-finals which they just played against Greece’s Panathinaikos AC Athens and successfully overcame. It turned out that a 2-3 defeat at home in the first leg was an unsurpassable mountain to Panathinaikos, who got swept in the rematch on the Canaries.

Now, the names of the 3 out of 4 semi-final participants are known: Aydın, Scandicci, and La Laguna. The remaining participant will be known after tomorrow’s second leg between Tent Obrenovac (SRB) and C.S. Medgidia (ROU): 3-1 in the first leg.
