CEV CUP M: Ziraat narrowly avoid playing golden set in Verona, will face Belogorie in final

Calzedonia Verona were close to making it to the golden set in the rematch of the 2018 CEV Men’s Volleyball Cup semifinals against Ziraat Bankası Ankara.

Ziraat went to the rematch in Italy against Verona with a confident 3-1 win. But, Verona furiously opened the game by getting a 2-0 lead. They lost the second set but still could reach the golden set in case of winning the fourth. The Turkish side prevailed in a huge fight in this set (26-24) and secured their place in the final. The tie-break was of no significance. Nevertheless, Verona claimed it.

The Canadian Stephen Maar topped Verona with 17 points. Emanuele Birarelli added 4 kill blocks. The Pole Dawid Konarski scored 19 points for Ziraat.

Belogorie Belgorod from Russia scored another straight-set win against the Polish side Asseco Resovia Rzeszów to superiorly progress to the final. Dmitriy Muserskiy delivered 16 points (5 kill blocks) for the winners. Aleksander Śliwka scored 13 points for Resovia
