Latvia shut out Austria in a direct duel for No.1 in Pool A but only after five sets although they had a 2-0, partially 25-23, 25-20, 20-25, 23-25, 15-13.
The only chance for Austria to seize the Final Four ticket was to be the best second-placed side counting both pools. But, the development in Pool B did not go into their favor.
Belarus swept Hungary on the road by a 3-0 (Pavel Audochanka and Artur Udrys scored 11 points apiece) and waited for the outcome of the other clash in the pool in which Croatia lost a point to Albania (3-2). This guaranteed Belarus No.1 but it also promoted Croatia to the Final Four as the best second-placed team.
