The ‘Yellow Tigers’ beat Poland by a 3-2 (25-15, 17-25, 25-19, 22-25, 15-12) on the penultimate day of Week 2 of the 2021 Women’s VNL.

Given that, yesterday, it downed the Dominican Republic with the same score, the Belgium National Team managed to achieve two highly important wins for survival in the competition given it prevailed over two direct competitors for such battle (Belgium, together with Canada, Poland, and the Dominican Republic, is a ‘challenger team’ – a team that can drop out of the VNL if ends the tournament last). Britt Herbots was again very important in the attack of the ‘Yellow Tigers’. She scored the most points (20). Marlies Janssens made as many as 7 blocks, while Jodie Guilliams had 85.7 % digs (12/14). In the standings after five rounds, Belgium has two wins and 5 points.

The aforementioned Dominican Republic (Yonkaira Peña and Brayelin Martínez /76.5 % digs; 15/17/ tallied 16 points apiece), was also successful today, sweeping South Korea in straight sets, noting down the second win.

Turkey (Ebrar Karakurt 21 points, Simge Şebnem Aköz 77.8 % digs; 15/18) is the first national team to reach 5-0 in the competition as it swept Germany by a 3-0, continuing to stand out as one of the major favorites to win the VNL 2021.
