In the first game on Saturday afternoon, China overcame Germany (3-0). The Chinese, technically cleaner than their opponents, have well deserved their victory. Sharper in offense, added to efficient receptions and blocks, the players of head coach Xu Jiande have never got much into trouble throughout the game.

China – Germany

In the first set, the score remains tight during the beginning of a game with many mistakes. China gradually widened its advantage before winning 25-19.

The Germans started the second set with determination, committing fewer mistakes and being more aggressive at the net. Giovanni Guidetti’s squad, well helped with three excellent serves by Denise Hanke, even led 5-12. But China bounced back to tie at 15. With efficient offense and blocks, China managed to conclude the set, again with a score of 25-19.

The mission for Germany, behind 2-0, seemed quite difficult, especially as the Asians remained well focused with a very clean performance. Beside a couple of nice plays toward the end of the set from the Germans which allowed them to reduce the gap, the “Mannschaft” was defeated 25-21 in the last set.

China will play tomorrow for the fifth place against Japan, while Germany leaves Montreux sooner than expected.
