It appears that the defeat in the DVV Cup final was the trigger for the termination of the collaboration between SWD powervolleys Düren and Rafał Murczkiewicz, who held the position of head coach.
SWD powervolleys Düren announced the release of coach Rafał Murczkiewicz from his post due to an increasingly tense relationship with the team. According to Benjamin Kaulen, the Managing Director of the club, the decision was made because the team faces demanding tasks ahead in the league and dissolving the strained relationship is the better solution.
The internal tensions between the team and the coach were brought to light and intensified after their defeat in the cup final last Sunday. The management then held several discussions with everyone involved and concluded that working together until the end of the season would not lead to a successful completion of the season.
Rafał Murczkiewicz was appointed as the head coach in Düren in 2020, and the management had decided not to extend his expiring contract in mid-February.
Düren managment appointed Björn-Arne Alber as the new head coach until the end of the season. Alber has served as an assistant coach at SWD powervolleys for several years.
