The German championship title of 2023 has been clinched by the Berlin Recycling Volleys, who defeated VfB Friedrichshafen 3-1(25:28, 25:18, 16:25, 27:25) in the “Best-of-Five” final series. This triumph marks the conclusion of a highly successful season for the team, who secured the Triple Crown by winning not only the championship but also the DVV Cup and the SuperCup.
Playing in front of a packed Max-Schmeling-Halle, with 8,553 spectators in attendance, the BR Volleys put on an exceptional performance in serving and blocking, winning the first two sets. Even though Friedrichshafen staged a comeback in the third set, the Berlin team maintained their composure and focus.
The fourth set was filled with intense emotions and high drama, as Friedrichshafen’s middle blocker was ejected from the game for unsportsmanlike conduct, leaving the team with just one regular middle blocker. Initially struggling to take advantage of this situation, the BR Volleys rallied and turned the set around with the support of their passionate fans, winning 27-25 to secure the victory.
With this win, the BR Volleys have now won their seventh consecutive championship and thirteenth overall, drawing level with their rival VfB Friedrichshafen for the title record. It was a spectacular end to an incredible season for the Berlin team.
