Scott, many congratulations as your club just got the right to host the Final Four tournament of this year’s CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League. How did the team react to this news?
“Everyone was so excited and appreciative for our club doing everything possible to organise the Final Four for us. We were also very relieved since we had been working very hard to clear the group stage and all the hard work has paid off.”
You were a member of the USA gold-medal winning team at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Do you think the Final Four will be a comparable experience?
“The Final Four will be right up there with the Olympic Games because so many Europeans think of the Final Four as something which is as big as the Olympic tournament. The atmosphere will be special and to play in the Final Four will definitely be a highlight of our careers.”
Do you think that the BERLIN Recycling Volleys have a chance to compete with the other teams in the Final Four?
“We have showed that we can compete and beat the best teams in the world on our home court at Max-Schmeling-Halle. We want to compete for the European title.”
Which other teams will make it to the Final Four?
“I believe the other teams will be PGE Skra BELCHATOW, Zenit KAZAN and Lokomotiv NOVOSIBIRSK.”
Is there anything you want to tell your fans?
“The main thing I want to say to the fans is thanks for sticking by us throughout this wild season. You are one of the main reasons that we beat some of the best teams at Max-Schmeling-Halle and we need you to be even louder and supportive during the Final Four of the CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League. Bring everyone you can and let’s show Europe how amazing you are and how loud we can be in our ‘Temple of Volleyball’.”
