Perugia had everything under control after two sets, but what happened in the next three sets will enter the history books!

What a game at PalaBarton arena, the home of Perugia’s players.

Lorenzo Bernardi’s side had a 2-0 lead and it seemed they were going to give another 3-0 slap to Lube. The home fans were preparing for a celebration…

However, the third set showed all weaknesses of Perugia and Lube managed to give some good punches to get Perugia close to a knockout. This part of the game obviously gave a huge confidence boost to Lube’s players, that managed to win the fourth set and to tie the score.

In the fifth and the most important set in the whole championship, Lube created a much better start, having even five points of advantage.

The best scorer in Lube was Tsvetan Sokolov with 19 points, while Osmany Juantorena and Simon Robertlandy had 16 points each, Yoandy Leal contributed with 15 points.

In Perugia, Wilfredo Leon had 20, Aleksandar Atanasijevic scored 14 and Filippo Lanza 10.

Men’s Serie A1, playoff finals, game 5:

Perugia – Lube 3-2 (25-22, 25-21, 12-25, 21-25, 10-15), series 2-3

The miracle of sport.

Perugia had 2:0 lead at home court, and lost the game. The proof that Leon himself and his 7 aces were not enough, and he needs support.

The Perugia middles lost this game. Podrascanin only 4 points, 1 block, and Ricci 6 points, 1 block. Too little for the championship.

On the other side, Simon had 16 points, 7 blocks. Even Diamantini who played only last 3 sets had more points (5) and blocks (3) then Perugia’s middles.

We will see whether Lube will carry on this fantastic game to Berlin for Champions League Final vs Zenit on Saturday. However, Zenit is dangerous since this is their chance to won at least something this season.

The miracle was that Sokolov, Bruno, Simon and Juantorena all stayed healthy all year long.

I’ve said it before but Sokolov was the MVP of that playoff run and he will be missed next year. Simon was an absolute force and Perugia’s middles and 2nd outside were weak.

This is an interesting year with so many different teams winning different cups and Championships and I’m not sure who is the best club in the world this year.

This was a hard loss for the Perugia club especially being at home and so close with a 2-0 lead. Congrats Lube
