For the first time since the inception of the FIVB Volleyball Nations League (established in 1990 as the FIVB Men’s World League and in 1993 as the FIVB Women’s Grand Prix, both renamed in 2018), the national team of Italy won’t take part in it! The President of the Italian Volleyball Federation (Fipav) Pietro Bruno Cattaneo revealed this decision for the state radio Rai Radio 1 before he sent a letter to the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).
In the men’s competition, Italy won 15 medals (8 golds). In the women’s competition, they won 7 medals in total.
The coronavirus pandemic that’s upsetting the world forced FIVB to postpone this year’s edition of the event until after the Olympic Games but given that the Olympics themselves were postponed for 2021, it’s yet unknown what will be the new decision of the FIVB.

Well Sports Fans, the reality is that Italy won’t be alone and you can bet more Federations will do the same as this worlwide pandemic evolves. Summer sports for all will not be happening and I can forsee European Leagues holding off until late October and November. Budgets for all clubs and federations are in a holding pattern until we get a better grip on this virus. Its actually a smart decision by the Italians. Hopefully the Atheltes use this time to rest and strengthen their bodies
