Prosecco Doc Imoco Volley Conegliano beat Vero Volley Monza 3-2 in Game 4 of the 2021/22 Italian Women’s Volleyball Championship finals to become the titleholder again.
In front of the stands packed with rival fans at the Arena Di Monza (4,188 spectators), Imoco overtook the hosts Monza in Game 4 of the 2021/22 Serie A playoff finals and close the series at 3-1. Thus, the ’Panthers’ won the 5th championship title in the past 7 years, the 4th consecutive. For Imoco, this is the third trophy of the season after the Italian Cup and the Super Cup, so now the goal is claiming the CEV Champions League, and the final against Turkey’s VakıfBank is on May 22.
Monza capitulated after imposing a huge fight in three of the four matches in the series and can be proud even though they failed to crown their first-ever appearance in the title face-off by lifting the trophy. Paola Egonu and her teammates proved to be able to react after being down 0-2 in sets in Game 2, just a few days after the defeat in Game 1. Speaking of Egonu, she was brutal tonight, tallying 37 points for Imoco! American Kathryn Plummer made 4 blocks. The head coach Daniele Santarelli thus commanded the team to notch the second consecutive domestic ’treble’.
