The Italian male volleyball star Osmany Juantorena wrote a mysterious post on Twitter…
Osmany Juantorena didn’t give enough to the Italy National Team. That is a fact that can’t be disputed, as he debuted for the ’Azzurri’ seven years ago when he was already an experienced player – at the age of 30. Now the veteran player, competing in China, said goodbye to his No. 2 beloved nation (he’s Cuban-born and played for the national team of the Caribbean country in the early 2000s) in terms of playing for the national team last year after Italy got eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Tokyo Olympics.
The reality that the Italy National Team became a recovered world force in the last couple of years triggered Juantorena to reconsider his decision of retiring internationally. At least, that’s what can be inferred indirectly after reading his nostalgic Twitter post. It seems that winning an Olympic medal is still a live dream for the 37-year-old player:
“Sometimes I get a little nostalgic, but I’m happy and honored to have such great memories with this (Italian) jersey. An athlete deserves to experience the indescribable emotion that only the Olympics can give you. The only regret is not having worn it sooner… (Paris 2024, wait for me)“.
