As Italian media report, during a celebration of a win over Modena, one Trentino fan hit Modena President Catia Pedrini with two inflatable cheering batons he was holding previously. When she turned, having a son beside her, the fan showed her a double middle finger!
Immediately after this news has spread, Trentino issued an official note in connection with the accident.
“About the unacceptable act committed by the ‘fan’ at the end of the Diatec Trentino – Azimut Modena match against Catia Pedrini, Trentino condemn it and distance themselves from the person who has made the act. With deep sincerity, we express our apologies to Mrs. Catia Pedrini and Modena fans. The regret for what happened is even greater because it happened at the end of a great game and a great cheering show, with the absolute fairness between the two sides. Trentino will work to make sure that this is and will remain an isolated act, which must not call into question the quality of Trentino fans and the whole Italian volleyball,” Trentino published on a club website.
Interestingly, even the fan himself wrote an open letter to Pedrini which was published by Gian Luca Pasini on gazzetta.it.
“I’m sorry to see this thing being manipulated. There was no aggression from my side, I just wanted to draw her attention with inflatable cheering batons on her shoulder in a moment of euphoria. It was an unfortunate act, if you will, but not an aggressive. And there was no double finger but the posture of my hands holding inflatable cheering batons. My name is Andrea, a football fan of Trento, and I’m ready to take responsibility and apologize, but I do not accept this to be abused and misrepresented,” he wrote.
