BCC Castellana Grotte, who finished last in the 2017/18 Superlega regular season but will not be relegated due to a new format of the tournament, ended collaboration with the coach Pino Lorizio.

Instead of him, Castellana Grotte appointed legendary Italy national team setter, a two-time winner of the FIVB World Championship and a four-time winner of the CEV European Championship back in the 90s, Paolo Tofoli.

A 51-year-old Tofoli coached Division 2 (Serie A2) side Aurispa Alessano last season, advancing to the playoffs for SuperLega promotion, but lost to Monini Spoleto, currently playoff finalists, in the first round.
