Barranquilla 2018 W: Dominican republic won seventh gold

The Dominican Republic won the fifth consecutive title at the Central American and Caribbean Games.

In the big final in Barranquilla in Colombia, they defeated host team with 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-19) and lifted their seventh title on this competition.

Gaila Ceneida Gonzalez Lopez and Brayelin Elizabeth Martinez were the leaders in the winning team with 15 points each while Eve Mejia Castillo scored 10 points. In Colombia, who won their first ever medal in this competition, Dayana Patricia Segovia Elles was the best scorer with 10 points.

In the match for the bronze medal, Puerto Rico outplayed Mexico in fantastic five sets 3-2 (26-24, 15-25, 25-19, 27-29, 15-12).

Shirley Ferrer led Puerto Rico’s offense with 18 points, Noami Santos Lamb contributed with 16 points and Daly Santana with 15.

Mexico balanced their attacks between Samantha Bricio with a match-high of 19 points, Melanie Guadalupe Parra Quintero and Andrea Rangel with 16 points each.

For 3rd place

Mexico – Puerto Rico 2-3 (24-26, 25-15, 19-25, 29-27, 12-15)

For 5th place

Venezuela – Trinidad & Tobago 0-3 (24-26, 19-25, 20-25)

For 7th place

Costa Rica – Cuba 1-3 (19-25, 13-25, 25-23, 12-25)
