A prominent Russian expert Vladimir Alekno is the most serious candidate to take charge of Iran men’s volleyball National Team!

According to Tasnim News Agency, Alekno is the main candidate to take over the bench of Iran National Team.

Allegedly, the President the Islamic Republic of Iran Volleyball Federation (IRIVF) Mohammad Reza Davarzani said they started negotiations with the Russian expert who led his country’s national team to the gold medal in the 2012 London Olympics and Zenit-Kazan to five titles in the CEV Champions League (among many other trophies).

The IRIVF has unofficially set the goal of winning a medal in the next year’s Tokyo Olympics for which they need a big name on the bench after parting ways with Montenegrin Igor Kolaković.

The 53-year-old Alekno has most recently worked as head coach of Zenit-Kazan but withdrew from that position a year ago.

‘The IRIVF has unofficially set the goal of winning a medal in the next year’s Tokyo Olympics’
It sounds unreal or at least very hard to set as a main target keeping in mind there are teams like Brazil, Poland, USA, Russia or France that are considered better and more entitled than Iran. Just my opinion.
