Puerto Rico easily won against the African team (25-21, 25-18, 25-13) to get their first win of the tournament and their first 3 points on the special Classification 17-20.
Puerto Rico dominated the first set finding the main opposition in Mercy Promise, once again the leader of Nigeria. With 7 kills, 1 block and 2 aces she tried her best to avoid a loss.
In the second set Nigeria got advantage of some errors from Puerto Rico to get closer (7-7), but they lost the showing problems in passing and with their setter Chinenye Nwosu struggling and running for the ball. From then on, Puerto Rico setter Jennymar Santiago’s goal was to increase the points scored by each one of her team-mates, trying to change often her set direction to use all the 9-meter length.
Puerto Rico made the same numbers of errors of Nigeria, but was much more effective in all fundamentals. Patricia Montero and Wilmarie Rivera (8 points each) spiked with a 50% of effectiveness.
