It is the first time ever the FIVB has organized an age-group World Championships for U23. Already this year, the Girls U18, Boys’ U19, Women’s U20 have been held in Thailand, Mexico and the Czech Republic respectively. The Men’s U21 World Championship will take place in Turkey next week.
There are a total of 12 teams per gender.
The competition format will see the 12 teams split into two pools of six teams playing in round robin format. The semifinals will feature the top two teams from each pool.
The FIVB Volleyball Women’s U23 World Championship Open, which takes place in Tijuana, Mexico from October 5 to12, will feature two countries per confederation plus the host Mexico and the highest country in the world rankings not already selected by their confederation – in this case USA.

The FIVB Volleyball Men’s U23 World Championship Open, which will take place in Brazil (city to be confirmed) from October 6 to 13, will also feature two countries per confederation plus the host Brazil and the highest country in the world rankings not already selected by their confederation – in this Russia.
