Australia made Russia work for their points, giving away just four error points in the first two sets, but Russia’s spikers were up to the task and Russia heavily outscored Australia in attacking points.
Australia were more dangerous in attack in the third set and benefitted from a few Russia errors, but they still couldn’t match Russia’s attacking level as their spiking options produced the points for a 21-18 set and a 3-0 win.
Komarov and Shchadilov finished as Russia’s top scorers with 14 points each, while wing spiker Lincoln Alexander Williams (9) and middle blocker Nehemiah Mote (6) were Australia’s top contributors. After Thursday’s rest day, it’s the final round of pool matches where Russia face Serbia, and Australia look for their first victory against Mexico.
