CHN W: Second victory for Beijing, Ting Zhu wasn’t enough for Henan

The second round of Chinese Volleyball League was in full swing on November 11. Henan defeated Tianjin in the first round and had an enthusiastic cheers of the audience, but it did not disturb Beijing players who won – 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-17) for the second championship victory in Pool 2.

The beginning of the first set showed that home side was in the mood (7-1), but the strength of Beijing team withstood the offensive and they leveled the score. Henan was in the lead 8-7 into the first technical timeout. After a pause, Beijing stepped up to serve and with a great offense and blocking, scored five points to make the gap. This time the serve was a major part of Henan’s problem, they lost six points in that segment (Li Weiwei 2, Cai Xiaoqing, Fan Xiangchen, Wang Ting, Hu Dandan each 1, while their opponents only lost 1 point – 20-25.

In the second set, Beijing gained 4 point advantage. Henan players, after the second technical timeout, were back in the game, first with double block followed by Cai Xiaoqing’s fast break and then with her direct point, so Henan tied the score to 19-19. Beijing, after a timeout, adjusted its tactics. Fan Xiangchen and Cai Xiaoqing had bad reception on serve and a lot of mistakes made the home team’s offensive more and more passive – 22-25.

In the third set, Henan’s attacks were blocked. Ting Zhu had difficult time but she created the first four points for her team. Still, the team overall lacked in powerful offense, and soon entered the match with 13-24. At this point, Henan players woke up with the leadership of Ting Zhu who scored four points, but it was too late – Henan lost it to 17-25. At the same time, Beijing won the match by 3-0.
