A total of 22 primary and secondary school teachers from the region were awarded Level I coaching certificates by the FIVB following the course, run in conjunction with the Tanzania Volleyball Association (TAVA). The course was part of TAVA’s National Coaches Programme for Primary and Secondary Schools Sports Teachers, a special project aimed at reviving volleyball throughout Tanzania.
“We have witnessed the falling standard of volleyball in the country,” said TAVA president Augustino Agapa. “This is because for the past nine years it was not active in schools. We have decided to train the teachers so that they impart the students with proper skills of the game.”
It is hoped the project will eventually reach 600 teachers nationwide, with as many as 10,000 youngsters standing to benefit from their experience.
