Volero Zurich setter Courtney Thompson: “We won and that’s the most important thing – it doesn’t matter how we did it, we got it done. We did some things well and some things not so well, and they were a great opponent for us. They served better than us and they passed pretty well too. We will try to improve now but getting the first win is great.”
Volero Zurich coach Avital Selinger: “We were a bit sloppy. But after a poor start we reduced our mistakes and played to our plan. After that we controlled the match. We didn’t underestimate Mirador – they have great athletes and a great coach. But we played smart, we cleaned up our blocking and we made the right choices by the end of the match. Now we need to work harder for our next game.”
Mirador Santo Domingo coach Marcos Kwiek: “We played a really great first set against Volero Zurich, but started to struggle afterwards though. I think that one of the main reasons was that Volero Zurich started to put more pressure on us. We couldn’t keep our receiving game at a high level, what resulted in fewer opportunities in our offensive game. Nevertheless, I’m proud of the performance of my young team today.”
Mirador Santo Domingo captain Marte Frica Niverka Dhar: “We started with a lot of confidence into the game – what was the reason why we were able to overpower Volero Zurich in the opening set. The Swiss, however, took advantage of our lack of experience. We are a very young team; what made the difference afterwards. We want to focus now on the game versus Rexona AdeS tomorrow – we are keen to challenge them.”
