Speaking after the match, Anica said it was the first match at this level for her team since 2006 and to win the opening set and have a chance in the others was a positive sign for her team.
Andrew Brathwaite, coach of the Barbados team said: “Guadeloupe was a good opponent for us in our first match. They made us work for the victory as they surprised us early on and forced us into making errors. We were also a bit too slow today but credit to my girls as they worked hard for the victory. First games in tournaments are normally difficult and we are happy to have that out of the way with victory and will work on improving as the competition goes on.”
Jean-Louis Delag, coach of the Guadeloupe echoed the views of his captain saying it was his team’s first match at this level for quite some time and he saw many good things from his players.
“When you are not playing at this level as often as the other teams you will make mistakes, but at the same time Barabdos did well. For us the tournament is not over and we will work harder in our next match.”
