Myanmar were in their top form on Sunday, pushing the Koreans to the limit by the spectacular spikes from Aung Thu, who was instrumental in lifting the victory for Myanmar in the recent South East Asian Men’s Junior Championship on their home land.

Against the much stronger Koreans, Myanmar took the offensive combination from Aung Thu’s lightning-fast spikes and solid blocks by Aung Myat Tun and Do Mae Ni Ko for the stunning 27-25 win in the first set.

Despite the loss, South Korea still played cool under pressure. The more experienced Koreans regrouped and hit back mightily to win following sets 25-23 25-20 25-21 and the thrilling match.

Jeon Kwang-In bagged the highest 20 points for South Korea, while Aung Thun as expected emerged as the top scorer for Myanmar after claiming 16 points including 15 attack kills.

South Korea today play their last preliminary match against Vietnam.
