The Thai team harnessed fast and strong spikes during Monday’s match to numb down their opponents’ stance. Hong Kong clearly had limited blocking skills to begin with so they needed to rely more on their floor defence. However, the Hong Kong side found difficulty in responding to the sophisticated attacking skills of the Thai hitters. C. Jiraporn proved to be Thailand’s primary scoring weapon.
Thailand’s superb spiking skills lingered in the second set. S. Patcharaporn provided the supporting artillery to mount a huge advantage. Hong Kong could not match their opponents’ technique in both defence and offense, to suffer 25-15 in the second set.
Coach Lee Yue Ting Terry switched to his other setter Fong Tszshan to help check on Thailand’s attacks from the left flank. Thailand retaliated with a change of plan, shifting their offense to the right wing and from the back row. The Hong Kong girls sent out haphazard attacks when they had the chance to do so. Their errors persisted and only left them with no room to reverse their fate against Thailand.
C. Jiraporn and S. Patcharaporn emerged as the formidable Thai scoring tandem, capping off the match with 11 points and 10 points respectively.
Thailand will face host China at 19:00 (local time) on Tuesday.
