Natalia Valentin has been named as captain of the Puerto Rican women’s volleyball National team – a move that forms part of the renovation of the squad for the new Olympic cycle. Puerto Rico are preparing to participate in 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Group 2 as of July 7.
Valentin, a dynamic setter, is the fifth captain of the team since 1990. She follows Xiomara Molero (1990-2004), Aurea Cruz (2005-08), Vilmarie Mojica (2009-12) and Yarimar Rosa (2013-16).
“It is an honour and I am extremely happy for this opportunity and the confidence the girls have showed while choosing me for this important role which I take seriously,” Valentin said and added:
“I have the advantage and blessing of being surrounded by many teammates with experience who are also leaders who I can trust to take the best decisions as a team”
The first competition in 2017 for Valentin and the Puerto Rican team will be the XVI Pan American Cup to be held in Lima and Cañete, Peru from June 15 to 26.
