A 25-year-old outside hitter Jakub Rohnka failed drug test which showed that even one of the strongest and most organized men’s volleyball championships in the world, such as Polish, is not immune to such things.
Rohnka’s club Łuczniczka distanced itself from the actions of its player.
“The club Łuczniczka Bydgoszcz announces that Jakub Rohnka was suspended from the competing for violation the anti-doping rules. Until Polish Anti-Doping Agency takes the official position, the club will not comment on the matter. The player has the right to appeal,” PlusLiga club, who recently put its name in the history of the tournament, issued.
As Polish media reported, Łuczniczka will not bear the consequences for what their member did.
“Our regulations do not provide such a solution that, due to suspicion or the declared use of illegal drugs by a particular player, his team would suffer consequences in the form of a walkover or financial penalties. There is no such solution because, for 18 years of the professional league, accidents like this were very rare. Volleyball is such a technical and complex sport that the use of classic doping simply does not make sense,” said PlusLiga spokesman Kamil Składowski.
